  1. Anyone can hold the helm when the sea is calm -Publilius Syrus

This quote means that it is easy to have things under control there is no struggle to keep things in order and everything to move smoothly, it is only under stressful situations, in this case when the sea is turbulent, or when there are a lot of things going on at the same time and it is harder to keep things under control. But it is under these conditions that we are able to see who is able to lead and work under pressure and to get the crew on the ship into getting things done quickly and efficiently. This is meaningful to me as although anyone can do things when there is little to no stress or pressure but real leaders need to have to work under pressure to get things done, this is a quote that I strive to follow as I want to become a better leader for the juniors and throughout tough times I want to maintain the best experience for them and that needs me to hold the helm throughout the seven seas

  1. Leave the road, take the trails - Pythagoras

This quote's meaning is very simple, it simply means that one can try to take the path less travelled there is no need to take the path that has been paid out for you. This is meaningful In this urban jungle of Singapore there are always paved roads like school paths, career paths where we always have to go to the best schools, and the best jobs are always being a doctor, lawyer and engineers. However, we can always take the path less travelled in exploring one’s interests in arts, gaming and social media and it is possible to carve a career out of it. It also has another meaning of challenging the process, there is no need to always carry out the same way to do a task like teaching our scouts if we do not explore other possibilities we might not find a more efficient and better way to teach them,

  1. A scout is never taken by surprise: he knows exactly what to do when anything unexpected happens Robert Baden-Powell

This quote follows the Scout motto of “Be Prepared” . This quote tells us that we have to be ready for any situation that occurs when we are carrying out any activity. When we plan any activity for our scouts we have to prepare for any situation. If it is an outdoor activity like an expedition we will need to take note of the weather for the day, be careful if there are any injuries that may happen and maybe any wild animals that may harm the scouts or can the scouts get lost. In these situations as a scout leader, we will need to plan accordingly where we have to have a wet weather plan, a fully kitted first aid kit and have a buddy system in case of these situations respectively.

  1.  "A week of camp life is worth six months of theoretical teaching in the meeting room."

I would think that many people agree with me that doing things by itself is so much easier to learn in a classroom setting. This is meaningful to me as it is very true, when I was taught backwoodsman theory it was very hard to learn and retain it in my brain although I tried my hardest. When we actually were cooking using backwoodsman theory it was very interesting as things were moving and learning I could see why the theory was important and after a demonstration had already understood how to make the hole and cook with my newly learnt backwoodsman skills. They help me by simply knowing that a demonstration speaks so much more words than just teaching normally and I can apply that concept when I plan for training that requires us to teach

  1. Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished- Lao Tzu

This quote illustrates that when we see nature everything feels so slow and serene compared to urban city life where we are able to see so many people in the city moving around where everything has to be done and there are always things to be done. However in nature, although it is slow, trees grow big and strong, animals get food from fruits and there is always fresh air for animals there is always a balance. This is meaningful to me as a scout as there are always things to be done as a scout leader but if we are slow and consistent we will always accomplish our goals there is no need to rush our planning and thinking if we are consistent.
