The East Area scout leadership camp was something that I can vividly remember as it is a unforgettable experience for me. During the start of the June holidays we were tasked by bringing things to the camp from our scout den. This simple thing at the start was already messed up by me as I forgot to bring it to the camp, I was afraid that this would leave a bad impression on me onto others. However, they were very forgiving so i was let off this time, due to series of unfortunate events from the original seven members that we had we were down to 6, because they had a fever and another member had a broken arm which effectively left us with 5 people. This was also in addition to the rain that we had to work through to build our tents and kitchen shed, an originally seven person job was now down to the 6 of us . We did not let the rain phase us and we were one of the fastest groups to finish building our kitchen shed and tent (with the help of out mentors and facilitators ) we were off to a good start. Since I was appointed the (APL) for the day but the PL was sick I had to cover for him as the PL this was only the start of my leadership roles.
The Second day of SLC we went for a hike and since I did not bring the compass that I was supposed to bring, we had to use the aid of a another tool that the mentor had which did not have a compass. We set off for the hike and we ate our canned lunch and food along the way this activity was very intense as we were walking on the roads near an industrial district and there were a lot of very fast-moving cars and trucks but our group managed to get through the checkpoints and reach our destination, I will state one of the only two groups to reach the checkpoint. After the hike we had our Whale watch activities and we had to cooperate with another group to reach our goal such as balancing the seesaw with the 14 of us.
The third day of SLC was personally the most tiring one for me because not only was I appointed as the SPL for the day I was also the parade commander for the day, these two things had sent me through the grinder for the day. Firstly I had to address the sirs each time and disseminate the information to the others and it was a back and forth everyday. I personally think that even though I was the only Sec 2 Scout SPL it was a tremendous stress for me, but I managed to think and act under pressure and grow into a more independent person. Without this SLC I do not think that I would be as hardworking as I am today
The Fourth day went by in a breeze where we had to pack everything up keep the tents etc. I feel that it is fulfilling to the end of the camp and it was a fairly low stress day for me. I learnt to become more independent and made some close friends along the way
