Pioneering

We did our pioneering during the June holidays when I was Secondary 1 PL Donavan was teaching me the rope on how to tie the basic lashings like the square, diagonal and figure of 8 lashings. After I learnt the basics on how to do the lashings I joined together with the other Secondary 1 students, We were tasked to build a ladder using only the ropes and poles that we were given. We instinctively realised that we needed to use the square lashings that we just learnt to tie the brown poles to the pioneering poles as steps for the ladder. I had to cooperate with my fellow scouts to finish the activity within in the time limit. There were some scouts that were not cooperating and the seniors had to gather them around to help with the ladder so we were slower than expected but we still made it in the time limit. The seniors went around to look at our ladders and inspect them to see what was wrong with them. We put our ladder on the ground for the seniors to inspect , they kicked the poles that were tied and it moved around easily so , when they saw it they explained to us that if real people were climbing on the ladders that we had tied they would be more likely to get in injured as the steps were loose. They taught me the importance of why we needed tight ropes for our structures as it should be safe for the ones building the structure and the ones near it, it should not pose any danger to us. I learnt to cooperate with my fellow scouts and make the best ladder that we could with limited experience
